Mul-T-Lock Security Solutions in Washington DC

Globally recognized physical security featuring advanced telescopic pin tumblers and strict key control

  • Licensed and bonded technicians serving DC homeowners since 2004.
  • Same-day service available on most residential hardware.
  • Every install includes a reinforced 3-inch strike plate.

What We Offer

Telescopic Pin Technology

A patented 'pin-within-a-pin' mechanism creates a dual-locking shear line, multiplying security and rendering traditional lock picking practically impossible.

Alpha Spring Control

The MT5+ series incorporates an interactive mobile spring on the key tip that engages a secondary locking bar, preventing 3D-printed key counterfeiting.

Extreme Drill Resistance

Constructed with hardened steel inserts in the cylinder body and the pins themselves to shatter drill bits and survive heavy impacts.

Absolute Key Control

Keys can only be duplicated by an authorized Mul-T-Lock dealer upon presentation of the highly restricted magnetic strip key order card.

Mul-T-Lock in Washington DC

Standard hardware is not adequate for diplomatic residences in Kalorama, high-value commercial properties downtown, or any home where physical security is a priority. Mul-T-Lock, an ASSA ABLOY brand, builds cylinders engineered to withstand picking, bumping, and physical attack.

DC Local Locksmith provides factory-authorized installation, servicing, and custom master keying of Mul-T-Lock products across Washington DC.

The Innovation of the Telescopic Pin

Most residential deadbolts rely on a single row of five or six standard pins. A bump key only has to manipulate that single row. Mul-T-Lock changed this fundamentally.

  • Pin-Within-A-Pin: Mul-T-Lock utilizes a patented telescopic pin system. Every pin chamber contains an outer pin and a smaller inner pin hidden inside it.
  • Dual Shear Lines: To unlock the door, a key must simultaneously elevate the outer pins to one shear line, and the inner pins to a separate shear line.
  • The Dimple Key: Because of this dual-pin system, Mul-T-Lock keys don’t have jagged teeth on the edge. Instead, they are high-precision “dimple keys” with specific circular depressions milled into the flat face.
  • Bump-Proof: The physics required to bypass inner and outer pins simultaneously mean that “lock bumping” is fundamentally impossible.

The MT5+ System: Maximum Security

For the highest threat models, we install the Mul-T-Lock MT5+ platform. The MT5+ doesn’t just rely on telescopic pins; it layers three independent locking mechanisms into a single cylinder.

  1. Telescopic Pins: The foundational double-locking mechanism.
  2. The Alpha Spring: The tip of the MT5+ key contains a tiny, interactive mobile spring. When inserted, this spring engages a specialized pin at the back of the lock, proving the key is an authentic factory original and not a 3D-printed fake.
  3. The Locking Bar: The key features a specialized, laser-cut groove (a “snake track”) milled along the side. This track interacts with a secondary locking sidebar made of hardened steel. The cylinder will not turn unless this sidebar perfectly snaps into place.

Key Control

A high-security lock provides no benefit if an employee or tenant can walk into a hardware store and copy the key.

Mul-T-Lock duplicates are only made by authorized dealers with the proprietary Mul-T-Lock milling machinery. We will not cut a key without the physical, magnetic-striped Key Order Card issued during the original installation. That protocol means you know exactly how many keys to your property exist at any given time.

Common Questions

Mul-T-Lock Security Solutions in Washington DC FAQs

What is the difference between Mul-T-Lock ClassicPRO, Interactive+, and MT5+?

These represent different tiers of the Mul-T-Lock line. ClassicPRO uses their telescopic pins and offers solid key control. Interactive+ adds a floating element in the key to resist counterfeiting. The MT5+ goes furthest: telescopic pins, a specialized alpha spring, and a side-milled 'snake' track that requires highly specialized machinery to copy.

My house uses Schlage locks. Do I have to replace all the hardware to get Mul-T-Lock?

No! Mul-T-Lock manufactures advanced 'retrofit' cylinders designed to fit directly into the housings of common American lock brands like Schlage, Kwikset, Yale, and Baldwin. Our locksmiths can extract your old, vulnerable cores and upgrade you to Mul-T-Lock high-security cylinders without forcing you to buy entirely new door handles.

What happens if I lose my Mul-T-Lock key card?

The key card is the only way to authorize key duplication. If you lose it, we cannot legally or practically cut you a new key. In the event of a lost card, the lock cylinder must be entirely re-pinned and a new card (and corresponding keys) must be generated. We highly advise keeping the card in a secure safe or bank deposit box.

Are you licensed and insured for residential work in DC?

Yes. DC Local Locksmith holds a current DC and MD license, is fully bonded, and carries general liability insurance. Documentation is available on request.

Do you offer after-hours service for home lockouts?

Yes. Our dispatch line is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including holidays. Quoted before dispatch.

Which lock brands do you install and service?

We install and service Schlage, Yale, Kwikset, Medeco, Mul-T-Lock, and most ANSI-rated residential hardware. We can supply hardware or install what you provide.

Should I rekey or replace my locks after moving into a new home?

Rekeying is the faster option when the hardware is in good condition and serves most change-of-occupancy needs. Replacement is warranted when hardware is worn, damaged, or below ANSI Grade 1 standard. We confirm which path fits your hardware during the quote.

Can you cut additional keys on-site?

Yes. We carry key blanks for most residential cylinders and can cut copies at the time of service.

What is ANSI Grade 1, and do I need it for my exterior doors?

ANSI Grade 1 is the highest residential security rating, tested for 250,000 cycles, 6 attempts at 75-pound force, and pick/drill resistance. We recommend Grade 1 on all exterior doors and Grade 2 minimum on interior doors.

What is your protocol for eviction-related lock changes?

We require a copy of the court order before performing an eviction lock change. We do not perform lock changes on occupied residential units without legal authorization.
