Intelligent Automated Entryways in Washington DC

Managing the flow of hundreds or thousands of people daily requires heavy-duty architectural hardware. An automated door system integrates mechanical pivots, electro-mechanical drives, and sensitive detection arrays. When these systems fail or fall out of calibration, the result is immediate pedestrian bottlenecks, ADA compliance failures, and security and thermal liabilities.

DC Local Locksmith is the District’s leading authority on commercial automated door systems. We design, install, and maintain high-performance automated entryways built for DC’s high-traffic retail corridors like Union Station, complex healthcare facilities, and high-volume government complexes.

Commercial Automation Solutions

We strictly avoid residential-grade light-duty openers repurposed for commercial applications. Our installations feature commercial-grade, continuous-duty operators designed to reliably execute millions of cycles:

  • Automatic Sliding Doors: We install single-slide and bi-parting systems utilizing advanced microprocessor controls for smooth linear acceleration and deceleration, minimizing jarring wear on the belt and brushless motor.
  • Swing Door Operators: Ideal for historic DC buildings where wide sliding doors cannot fit, or for mitigating heavy wind-loads along the Potomac waterfront. We utilize high-torque pneumatic or electro-mechanical swing operators that can push or pull doors weighing up to 700 lbs.
  • Telescoping Door Systems: Specifically engineered for tight entryways, telescoping sliding systems overlap multiple narrow door panels to maximize the clear opening width in confined District storefronts.
  • Clean Room and Hermetic Doors: Specialized sealing automated doors designed for healthcare, pharmaceutical, and laboratory environments requiring strict environmental control and positive/negative pressure maintenance.

Compliance, Safety, and Security Integration

Installing an automated door in Washington DC means working through a demanding set of regulations. Our full-energy systems are calibrated to meet ANSI A156.10 standards; our push-plate systems adhere to ANSI A156.19 low-energy standards. We deploy dual-technology sensors, combining microwave motion detection with active-infrared presence detection, to ensure the door never closes on a pedestrian, confirming compliance within a dedicated threshold safety zone.

Furthermore, we integrate these automated systems directly into your existing facility access control profile. During an emergency or power failure, our sliding and swinging systems feature immediate mechanical breakaway (panic) functionality, allowing them to instantly convert to manual push-open platforms to guarantee an unimpeded egress path.

DC Local Locksmith is fully licensed, bonded, and insured. We provide exact, confirmed quotes for the complex engineering required to automate your facility’s ingress. Partner with us for automated systems that blend frictionless accessibility with uncompromising mechanical security.

Quote Process

Send a Photo. Get the Exact Quote.

Before any technician is dispatched, a manager reviews the photos you send and confirms a single total. That confirmed total is the number on the invoice. Send a photo of the lock, door, or vehicle and a manager will reply with the exact amount before anyone is scheduled. The quote is the total.

Need to Know

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between low-energy and full-energy automatic operators?

Low-energy operators (governed by ANSI A156.19) move slowly and require a knowing act, like pressing a push-plate, to open. They do not require safety sensors. Full-energy operators (ANSI A156.10) open quickly upon approach via motion sensors and require full safety sensor arrays and guide rails.

Can you automate an existing heavy glass storefront door?

In most cases, yes. We can retrofit heavy-duty surface-mounted operators onto existing aluminum, glass, or solid wood commercial doors, provided the existing pivots or hinges are in excellent mechanical condition. We will reinforce the header as needed to handle the torque.

How often do automated door systems need maintenance?

Due to high cycle counts, we recommend bi-annual preventive maintenance. This includes inspecting the tracks, adjusting belt tension, calibrating safety sensors to ensure blind spots haven't developed, and verifying fire-alarm drop-out relays.
