Tesla Key Replacement in Washington DC FAQs
My phone died and my Tesla Model 3 is locked. If you open the door, will the alarm trigger?
Yes. Bypassing the electronic lock without a paired Bluetooth device or Key Card triggers Sentry Mode. Once we get you into the cabin, plug your phone into the center console charger. When the Tesla app establishes Bluetooth authorization, the alarm disarms and the screen unlocks.
I lost my only Tesla Key Card and I only have my phone. Is that a problem?
It is a real liability. If your phone breaks or valet requires a physical key, you are stranded. Adding a new Key Card normally requires tapping an already-authorized card to the screen as an admin override. We use specialized service software to authenticate a new Master Key Card even when all previous cards are gone.
Can a generic locksmith open a Model Y?
Usually not safely. Tesla uses frameless acoustic windows. A generic locksmith using a standard metal wedge in the glass channel will likely shatter it. Most also don't know the mechanical pull-loops inside the frunk or the tow-eye battery terminal sequence needed to access a vehicle with a dead 12V battery.

Do you repair or replace ignition cylinders?
Yes. We rebuild or replace ignition cylinders and can often save the existing key code so your current key cut still works in door locks.
Can you program a remote or key fob without the original?
Yes for most vehicles. Some manufacturers require dealer-level authorization tokens for proximity fob programming. We confirm compatibility before dispatch.
