What We Offer

Invisible Design

Level Lock replaces only the internal mechanics of a deadbolt or acts as a sleek, standard-looking lockset on the exterior, preserving architectural aesthetics.

Touch to Unlock

With the Level Touch model, you simply leave your phone in your pocket and place a finger on the exterior keyhole to securely trigger the deadbolt.

Apple HomeKit Native

Connects natively with Apple HomeKit, allowing you to use Siri, automate routines, and unlock with Apple Home Keys on compatible devices.

Hidden Battery

Powered by a CR2 battery cleverly concealed within the sliding deadbolt core itself, making battery swaps fast and easy.

Level Lock in Washington DC

In Georgetown and Capitol Hill, where historic doors and strict HOA rules are common, bolting a bulky plastic smart lock to a preserved wooden door creates problems. Many condo boards prohibit exterior hardware changes entirely.

Level Lock, engineered by former Apple product designers, fits the smart lock entirely inside the door. DC Local Locksmith installs these systems for DC homeowners who need smart access without changing the exterior.

The Level Product Lineup

Depending on your aesthetic needs, there are three primary paths for integrating Level technology into your home:

  • Level Bolt: The most discreet option. It replaces only the internal deadbolt mechanism inside the door. You keep your existing exterior keyhole and interior thumb turn. From the outside, the smart lock is entirely invisible, and your current physical key continues to work.
  • Level Lock: A complete lockset replacement that mimics the simple, elegant profile of a standard high-end deadbolt. It offers a cleaner aesthetic than the Bolt while upgrading your physical hardware.
  • Level Touch: The flagship model. It looks like the standard Level Lock, but incorporates capacitive touch technology. If your authorized smartphone is in your pocket or purse, you merely touch a finger to the metal housing of the exterior keyhole, and the lock securely actuates.

Advanced Home Automation Integration

Level Lock prioritized ecosystem integration, making it a favorite for users deeply invested in smart home platforms, particularly Apple.

  • Apple Home Keys: Compatible Level models support Apple Home Key, allowing you to simply tap your iPhone or Apple Watch against the lock to enter, similar to using Apple Pay.
  • Native HomeKit Support: The lock speaks natively to Apple HomeKit via Bluetooth, enabling voice commands via Siri and deep integration into daily routines (e.g., locking the door and turning off lights when you say “Goodnight”).
  • Ring Integration: Level also partners closely with Ring. A compatible Ring video doorbell or alarm base station can act as a bridge, allowing you to lock or unlock the door directly from the Ring app while viewing your porch camera.

The Critical Need for Professional Installation

The engineering marvel of packing a motor, logic board, and CR2 battery into the actual sliding deadbolt is also the lock’s biggest technical challenge.

Because the motor is extremely compact, it cannot rely on brute force. Friction is the enemy of the Level Lock.

  • A traditional deadbolt can be forced past a misaligned strike plate by hand.
  • If a Level Lock encounters that same friction, the motor will stall, and the app will report a “Lock Jammed” error.

When DC Local Locksmith performs the installation, we do not simply swap the hardware. We scrutinize the door’s geometry, deepen the strike box, file down obstructing metal plates, and adjust door hinges. The bolt has to glide without contact. That is what keeps the battery lasting and the smart features working consistently.

Common Questions

Level Lock Smart Security in Washington DC FAQs

Does Level Lock work with my existing keys?

If you purchase the 'Level Bolt', yes. The Bolt model replaces the internal mechanism inside the door but allows you to keep your existing exterior key cylinder and interior thumb turn. Therefore, your current physical house key will continue to operate the lock alongside the smart app.

Why is a locksmith needed for an 'invisible' lock?

Because all the electronics are compacted directly into the deadbolt hole inside the door, there is zero margin for error. If the door isn't perfectly aligned and the bolt drags against the frame, the tiny internal motor will immediately jam or burn out its battery trying to force the lock closed. Our installation ensures zero friction.

How does the lock connect to the internet?

Level Lock communicates via low-power Bluetooth. To execute remote locking/unlocking from away from home, you need to use a compatible smart home hub (like an Apple TV, HomePod, or compatible Ring base station) to bridge the Bluetooth signal to your Wi-Fi network.

Are you licensed and insured for residential work in DC?

Yes. DC Local Locksmith holds a current DC and MD license, is fully bonded, and carries general liability insurance. Documentation is available on request.

Do you offer after-hours service for home lockouts?

Yes. Our dispatch line is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including holidays. Quoted before dispatch.

Which lock brands do you install and service?

We install and service Schlage, Yale, Kwikset, Medeco, Mul-T-Lock, and most ANSI-rated residential hardware. We can supply hardware or install what you provide.

Should I rekey or replace my locks after moving into a new home?

Rekeying is the faster option when the hardware is in good condition and serves most change-of-occupancy needs. Replacement is warranted when hardware is worn, damaged, or below ANSI Grade 1 standard. We confirm which path fits your hardware during the quote.

Can you cut additional keys on-site?

Yes. We carry key blanks for most residential cylinders and can cut copies at the time of service.

What is ANSI Grade 1, and do I need it for my exterior doors?

ANSI Grade 1 is the highest residential security rating, tested for 250,000 cycles, 6 attempts at 75-pound force, and pick/drill resistance. We recommend Grade 1 on all exterior doors and Grade 2 minimum on interior doors.

What is your protocol for eviction-related lock changes?

We require a copy of the court order before performing an eviction lock change. We do not perform lock changes on occupied residential units without legal authorization.
