Our Mailbox Lock Process

  1. Identify the mailbox typeTell us whether it’s a standalone box, apartment slot, cluster unit, or commercial system.
  2. We assess the lockOur technician determines if the lock can be opened and rekeyed, or if replacement is needed.
  3. Non-destructive openingWe bypass the lock to retrieve your mail without damaging the box.
  4. Rekey or replaceIf the lock is functional, we rekey it and give you new keys. If it’s damaged, we replace it with a USPS-approved lock.
  5. Extra keys cutWe cut duplicates on-site for family members, roommates, or property managers.

USPS-Approved Lock Replacements

When we replace a mailbox lock, we use Arrow or Florence brand locks that are compatible with your USPS mail carrier’s master key. This is critical, a non-USPS-approved lock means your carrier can’t deliver mail and will instead hold it at the post office.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you open my mailbox without breaking it?

Yes. We use mailbox-specific bypass tools to open the lock without damaging the box or the lock housing. If the lock is functional, we can simply make you a new key.

Do you install USPS-approved mailbox locks?

Yes. We install Arrow and Florence locks that are compatible with your mail carrier's master key. This means your letter carrier can continue delivering mail normally after the lock is replaced.

What if my mailbox lock is jammed or broken?

We can drill out the old lock and replace it with a new USPS-approved lock. The new lock comes with two keys, and we can cut additional copies on-site.

Can you rekey a cluster mailbox unit?

Yes. For cluster box units (CBUs) commonly found in DC apartment complexes and condos, we can rekey or replace individual unit locks without affecting other tenants' boxes.

Is a mailbox lockout really an emergency?

It can be. If you're expecting medication, legal documents, a passport, or time-sensitive financial documents, a mailbox lockout becomes urgent. We treat these calls with the same priority as any lockout.
