Project Overview
Running a restaurant in one of Washington DC’s busiest dining districts means managing hospitality and back-of-house security at the same time. This case study details how DC Local Locksmith fortified a Dupont Circle eatery, protecting its inventory while ensuring compliance with local safety regulations.
The Assessment
The restaurant management contacted us after an attempted break-in at their rear delivery entrance, which opens into a dark alleyway typical of older DC commercial blocks. Additionally, an upcoming municipal inspection meant their front-of-house emergency exits needed upgrading. Our licensed technicians surveyed the property, verifying the structural integrity of the steel delivery doors and measuring the main glass-aluminum storefront doors to ensure the correct egress hardware was specified.
The Implementation
For the vulnerable rear entrance, we installed a commercial-grade, drill-resistant maximum security deadbolt paired with a heavy-duty latch guard to physically prevent pry attacks. In the dining room, the challenge was life-safety compliance. We removed the outdated push-paddles and installed full-length commercial crash bars (panic hardware) equipped with concealed vertical rods. This allows for immediate, unhindered evacuation during an emergency, satisfying all stringent DC fire codes.
Long-Term Support
Because restaurant hardware sustains heavy daily wear and tear from staff and patrons, we established a preventative maintenance plan. The management team also benefits from our priority emergency response. If a delivery door ever jams during a late-night service, our technicians are a direct call away.
