Project Overview
Managing access in high-turnover commercial spaces in downtown Washington DC requires both speed and systematic precision. This case study details how DC Local Locksmith implemented a Master Key system for a multi-tenant office building, consolidating their operations while tightening security.
The Assessment
Located near McPherson Square, the client’s building housed over twenty separate businesses. Due to poor tracking by previous management, an unknown number of stray keys were in circulation. The new property manager recognized this massive security liability and contacted our licensed commercial division. Our technicians conducted a door-by-door audit, mapped out the necessary access privileges for tenants, maintenance, and management, and proposed a structured re-keying plan.
The Implementation
Working swiftly over a weekend to avoid interrupting the weekday business operations, our bonded technicians systematically re-keyed all 45 locks in the building. We utilized a highly durable, commercial-grade lockset profile. The core of our solution was the careful creation of a Master Key Matrix. This mathematical pinning structure allowed us to issue individual ‘change keys’ to specific offices, a ‘sub-master’ for the janitorial staff covering only non-secure zones, and a ‘grand-master’ for the property manager.
Long-Term Support
Every key cut and cylinder pinned during this installation was securely logged in our encrypted database. When a new tenant moves in or out, the property manager simply calls our dispatch. Because we hold the system architecture on file, we can provide exactly configured replacement cylinders or new keys with virtually zero downtime, backed by our commitment to exceptional, ongoing service.
