What We Offer

Proper Anchoring

Every safe we install is bolted to the floor, wall, or structural member. An unanchored safe is just an expensive box.

Location Consultation

We help you choose the best location based on security, fire resistance, accessibility, and structural support.

All Safe Types

Floor safes, wall safes, fireproof document safes, gun safes, jewelry safes, and compact cash safes.

Combination Setup

We set up your combination or electronic code, provide backup keys, and show you how to change the combination later.

Home Safe Installation in Washington DC

A quality safe protects what matters most, documents, jewelry, firearms, cash, and irreplaceable items. But a safe is only as secure as its installation. An un-anchored safe can be tipped over, dragged, or carried out by two determined thieves.

Common Questions

Home Safe Installation in Washington DC FAQs

Where should I put my home safe?

On the ground floor or basement, against an interior wall, in a location not visible from windows or main entry. Master closets are popular but predictable, burglars check there first. A less obvious location in a utility room or home office is often better.

Does the floor need to support the safe's weight?

Yes. Large gun safes and fireproof safes can weigh 400-1,200+ lbs. Ground-level concrete is ideal. Upper floors with wood joists need structural assessment. We'll advise on whether your floor can support the safe you want.

Can you install a wall safe?

Yes. Wall safes are installed between wall studs and concealed behind furniture or artwork. They're best for lightweight valuables, documents, jewelry, small items, but don't offer the same fire or theft resistance as floor safes.

What fire rating should I look for?

Look for UL-rated fire safes. A 1-hour fire rating at 1,700°F is the minimum we recommend for important documents and media. For extended protection, choose a 2-hour rated safe.

Can you move an existing safe?

We coordinate safe relocation within your home. For long-distance moves, we work with professional safe movers who have the equipment for heavy transport.

Are you licensed and insured for residential work in DC?

Yes. DC Local Locksmith holds a current DC and MD license, is fully bonded, and carries general liability insurance. Documentation is available on request.

Do you offer after-hours service for home lockouts?

Yes. Our dispatch line is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including holidays. Quoted before dispatch.

Which lock brands do you install and service?

We install and service Schlage, Yale, Kwikset, Medeco, Mul-T-Lock, and most ANSI-rated residential hardware. We can supply hardware or install what you provide.

Should I rekey or replace my locks after moving into a new home?

Rekeying is the faster option when the hardware is in good condition and serves most change-of-occupancy needs. Replacement is warranted when hardware is worn, damaged, or below ANSI Grade 1 standard. We confirm which path fits your hardware during the quote.

Can you cut additional keys on-site?

Yes. We carry key blanks for most residential cylinders and can cut copies at the time of service.
